After reading this article you can

  • Open a specific EHCP section for annotation
  • Add notes and evidence references to individual sections
  • Compare sections across different EHCP versions

The EHCP section editor lets you work through your child's EHCP section by section. For each section, you can add your own annotations, link to supporting evidence in your Vault, record concerns you want to raise, and, when you have multiple versions, compare what has changed.

Opening the section editor

From your EHCP Tracking case, select the EHCP document you want to review. The document is displayed section by section: Section A through Section K (and the placement section where relevant). Select any section heading to expand it and begin annotating.

Adding annotations

Within each section, you can add one or more annotations. Each annotation includes:

  • Your note: what you want to record about this section. This might be a concern about the wording, something you want to raise at the annual review, or context that the section does not capture.
  • Evidence link: link to a document in your Vault that is relevant to this section. For example, linking an OT report to Section F provision for occupational therapy support.
  • Flag reference: if this section has an AI flag, you can link your annotation to that flag for a clear record of the issue and your response.
  • Status: mark the annotation as active (still to be resolved), resolved (addressed at a review), or noted (acknowledged but not a current priority).

Comparing across versions

If you have uploaded multiple EHCP versions, for example, the previous final EHCP and the current draft, you can use the Compare view to see what has changed between them.

The comparison highlights:

  • Text added in the newer version (shown in green)
  • Text removed from the older version (shown in red)
  • Unchanged text (shown in grey)

This is particularly useful when reviewing a draft EHCP after an assessment, or reviewing an amended EHCP to confirm that agreed changes have been made.

Tip

When you receive a new draft EHCP, upload it and run the compare tool against the previous final version immediately. This gives you a precise record of what changed, and what did not change despite your requests, before the 15-day response window passes.

Exporting annotated sections

You can export an annotated section view as a PDF, which includes your notes alongside the original EHCP text. This is useful for sharing your concerns with an advocate or solicitor, or for presenting at an annual review where you want a structured account of your position on each section.

PremiumEHCP section comparison and annotated export

Section comparison and annotated export require a Premium subscription. On the free plan, you can view and annotate sections but cannot compare versions or export annotated PDFs.
