Exporting for your application
How to export your completed DLA Helper record as a structured reference document to use when completing the DWP DLA form.
After reading this article you can
- Export your DLA application record as a PDF
- Understand how to use the export when completing the DWP form
- Know what to send to DWP alongside the form
Once you have worked through the guided questions and gathered your evidence, you can export your DLA Helper record as a structured PDF. This gives you a complete reference document to use when completing the actual DWP DLA1 Child form, and a record of what you submitted in case of review or appeal.
What the export includes
The exported PDF contains:
- Your answers to each guided question, section by section
- The evidence extracts you attached to each section, with source document references
- A summary of your evidence coverage
- The date the export was generated
The export is designed to be used as a reference alongside the DWP form, you use your written answers as the basis for your DLA application, and the evidence section to know which documents to enclose.
Using the export to complete the DWP form
The DWP DLA1 Child form can be completed on paper (requested by calling 0800 121 4600) or online. When you complete each section:
- Use your DLA Helper answer as the basis for what you write
- If the DWP form does not have enough space, use a continuation sheet and reference "see additional information enclosed"
- Note which documents you are enclosing for each section
What to send with your application
Alongside the completed form, send:
- Copies (not originals) of key professional reports, prioritise those with specific, usable language about daily needs
- Any professional letters obtained specifically for the application
- Do not send every document in your Vault, select the most relevant and specific
Tip
Keep a copy of everything you send DWP. If a mandatory reconsideration or appeal is needed, you need to know exactly what evidence was before the original decision maker. Note the date you sent the application and use recorded delivery if sending by post.
After submission
DWP will send an acknowledgement. A decision typically takes 8–12 weeks, though this varies. If you are refused or awarded a lower rate than you believe is correct:
- You have one month to request a Mandatory Reconsideration
- If Mandatory Reconsideration upholds the decision, you can appeal to the Social Security and Child Support Tribunal within one month
Your DLA Helper record and the evidence in your Vault are the starting point for any challenge.
Exporting your DLA application as a PDF requires a Premium subscription. On the free plan, you can work through all the guided questions and save your answers, but cannot export the completed record.
