After reading this article you can

  • Understand what timeline insights are and how they are generated
  • Review and dismiss insight events
  • Use insights to identify gaps, delays, and patterns in your case

Timeline insights are AI-identified events and observations drawn from your uploaded documents. They appear on your timeline automatically after an document analysis, giving you a richer picture of your child's case history without requiring you to manually log everything.

What insight events look like

An insight event might show as:

  • "Occupational therapy assessment completed, Sarah Briggs, March 2024"
  • "EHCP annual review due, November 2024 (based on final EHCP issue date)"
  • "Referral to paediatrics noted in GP letter, January 2023"
  • "Sensory processing difficulties described across 3 documents"

Each insight includes the source document, the date of the event, and a short description.

Types of insights

Key events: significant events mentioned in your documents that you have not explicitly logged (referrals, assessments, decisions).

Cross-document patterns: observations where SENVault has noticed the same issue mentioned across multiple documents ("Communication difficulties described in 4 separate reports").

Due dates: statutory deadlines calculated from key dates in your documents (e.g. annual review due dates, appeal deadlines based on decision letter dates).

Potential gaps: periods with no professional contact noted in your documents (which may indicate statutory timescales were missed or contact broke down).

Reviewing insights

From the Timeline, switch to the Insights tab. Insights are grouped by type. For each insight you can:

  • Confirm: mark it as verified and useful, keeping it prominently on the timeline
  • Add notes: your own context on why this event is significant
  • Dismiss: hide it from the active view if it is not relevant

Using insights in your case

Insights are most useful for:

Identifying delays: if SENVault identifies a six-month gap between a referral and a first appointment, or a missed annual review deadline, this is potential evidence of a statutory failure.

Building a chronology: when you need to reconstruct a timeline of professional contact for a tribunal, insights from your documents fill in events you might not have separately logged.

Spotting consistent evidence: a pattern of the same need described across multiple independent professionals is strong case evidence.
